Cajun Lives Matter!

They maybe short but after a cases of mic ultras they fight with the strength of 10 men.

My old Cajun grandfather (RIP) told me stories about growing up around Cankton/CouleeCroche/GrandCoteau. He said he got whipped really really bad by the principal of his school as a young kid when they caught him speaking French on the playground.

My grandpa later dropped out of school in 6th grade, I believe. He told me the principal came to his house to talk to him and his parents afterward to make him go back to school. When he showed up at their place, my grandpa beat him up and reminded him of the time he whipped him down. I’m not sure how old or how big he was at that time. But late in life, my grandfather was about 6’4 300lbs in his late 70’s. Big ole boy and tough as shite too.

He died 1 week before his 80th bday (sadly his goal was to reach 80). I knew he wouldn’t make it that long because he was dying of cancer. I sent him his bday card a month early knowing this, and he loved it. In his mind he was turning 80. Anyway: if you made it this far, thanks for reading.

My grandparents on one side of my family were from the Palmetto area, and they shared similar stories.

Here is one you would appreciate, and it involved a beating.

Second day of class my grandmother was learning numbers. The teacher would show the class the number, then she would say "Say ONE", the class would repeat.

Well, if you know Cajun French, you can see this coming.

She holds up two fingers and says to the class "Say TWO". The entire class looks at each other in dismay, some shake their heads, get up and start walking out. The whole class is forming a line to go out the door now. The teacher, principal, and another member of the school start wailing on the kids. Just beating the shite out of them making them go sit. The teacher, while beating them is still giving instructions with a really loud voice "SAY TWO!!".

Just caused more confusion.

Finally another teacher was pulled in to help. Kids crying, kids still trying to leave, and teachers still beating the shite out of the kids.

The other teacher informs them what "SAY TWO" sounds like in Cajun French. From that day forward the teacher changed to "Repeat Number".
