Is there really an automobile chip shortage?
Yes, a really bad one.

Add outboard motors to your list. Been waiting on one since February. Very few to be had nationwide and the few trickling in are almost all going on packages where the dealer sells boat/motor/trailer. Same chip issue as cars and trucks. And even boat builders have been struggling with fiberglass and resin shortages.

I ordered a Mustang Mach 1 (not the electric Mach E) back in March and it keeps getting pushed back. I get an email from Ford every Friday and it’s scheduled for production on September 6 of this year. Based on how far it’s gotten pushed thus far I don’t expect it to be built this year.

Most dealerships are preselling all of their vehicled and making bank.

Absolutely true. I ordered the Grand Wagoneer in April and do not expect it until September.

I haven't posted in 7 months and had to jump on to help explain to you stupid mother frickers that Chinese chip manufacturing really isn't a thing. CPUs are made in Taiwan, the USA, and to a lesser extent Europe. China is 10+ years behind the bleeding edge.

In general people know very little about geo-politics (mixing up ROC and PRC) and know even less about where these chips come from but neither stops them from a chance to say China a-hole even when it isn't truely relevent.

Whatever you do don't feel sorry for the dealerships outside the salespeople. They fricking print money with the service departments. That's the real money maker for them. Spent two years working in the parts dept of a dealership when I was in college. Was a truly eye opening experience.

Nice markup on parts, isn't there.

It's the same at places like NAPA and such. Dealers and repair shops get a much lower price than the guy off the street. Usually at least 40%.

And you show you know nothing about who pays the bills in a dealership.
