When there is a wreck why can’t they get the vehicles moved out of the travel lanes quick?

Right now the news just said that there was a truck that rear ended an 18 wheeler on I-10 east at La 415 and that the right lane has been blocked for an hour. My question is why can’t they simply move the accident over and open up the lanes with police making sure nobody comes flying through there? I’ve never seen accidents take so long to be cleared like they are here in Louisiana.

Update: the accident is now pushing 1 hour and 40 minutes total. Still haven’t attempted to open two lanes to make the traffic flow a little better.

For bad accidents they have to mark everything and investigate. For shite like that... I don't know.

We have a few cops on here, hopefully one will come give an answer.

I can understand for accidents that have injuries but I’m pretty sure 8 out of 10 wrecks are very minor injuries and the vehicles can be moved. It just seems ridiculous that they don’t even try to get the people in traffic moving in the slightest.

Wrong.

They’re supposed to be moved immediately.

Unless it's a bad accident, they should ticket people who don't move their vehicles (if they are able to be moved)

The difference there is that there’s way more roads and routes for people to take. In BR it’s one way in one way out basically.

Well they obviously aren’t moved immediately. Everyone here knows it. It’s like the people really don’t care about the others sitting in traffic.

They are supposed to be moved immediately if they are movable.

It can also be difficult to give directions to motorists when one of them does not speak English, which is the case with this accident at 415.

There are even signs that say to move accidents out of travel lanes. My guess is if they don’t, it’s either injuries or that one or both vehicles are immobile due to the wreck.

I understand what is supposed to be done. My question is why isn’t it actually done? Is it really the whole Gordon factor? People need to get plenty of pictures for the courts.

It seems to be some unwritten rule in Louisiana. Many people actually believe they aren't supposed to move their vehicle after an accident. I'd love to know where that came from.
The actual law, as others have stated, is move the vehicle if you are able to do so.

People don’t follow the law because they know nobody will enforce the law? It’s seriously ridiculous. It makes traveling in the state, mostly in the areas east of I-49/I-10 completely miserable and stressful.

You are out of touch. I travel this state a lot and it is not done as soon as possible. It’s done an hour or two later. No exaggeration. You really don’t believe that do you? Come on

You have no idea.

Clearly you do not travel this state as much as you would like to think, and you are exaggerating.

Man, I saw the same thing today on the surface streets. They are walking around taking pictures. People in line at the green light were frozen. Mother frickers go and move that wreck out of the road.
