Everywhere you turn in the media these days it's women this and women that, and now this... such pandering. Don't women ever tire of this?
It's almost like it's a race to see which corporation or organization can push reality most to brainwash them into doing something for them. In this case, buy AT&T U-Verse.
"You're special, you're smart, you're as good as ANY man. Buy my cable TV package/watch my TV show/wear my lipstick/buy my clothes/listen to my music/vote for me. After all... didn't I just show you how special you are?"
Because NOBODY is out there telling women how special they are these days, amirite?
Do women actually need all this constant reinforcement to feel like they can function? It's insulting to women!
The main focus of this commercial is an event which would apparently transform the landscape of femininity forever. An event where everyone would watch in awe, and always remember where they were when they saw it, akin to the moon landing or 911 or the JFK assassination. It's not me saying that... it's THEM - where will you be when the first female MLB pitcher throws a pitch?
This is an act that thousands... THOUSANDS of men have done for more than a hundred years. It's not special. It's not extraordinary. THOUSANDS of men have done this, some with the regularity of rolling out of bed, stumbling to the stadium and throwing a game. There have been men who have pitched a MLB game high as shite on drugs before. It's documented.
And the message is... oooooo... everybody hold your breath and remember this moment, because this woman, after training her whole life for this moment.... is doing something that Jose motherfricking Lima did 348 times.
So a woman pitching in a MLB game is 1/348th of what Jose Lima was capable of. Think about that. AT&T says we need to stop everything we are doing and honor that accomplishment.
Nothing would so poignantly illustrate how inferior women are to men than to make a huge deal out of something like that. Totally patronizing. Women deserve a better message than that.
