Are they just delaying it because of the Corona?

They keep delaying it because of “more additions”

I was just wondering this. I wanted to go to the farmer’s market, but it’s preorder/drive thru because of this stupid virus.

I haven’t seen any action out there in months. I drive by it multiple times a day.

Unfortunately, while the grounds look nearly complete, it is still an active construction site and the turf is not yet established to handle any foot traffic. We are doing our best to keep people out of the park, and appreciate your patience while we finish this phase of the project! The adjusted hours were to accommodate the Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market on Saturdays 8am-12pm under our live oaks near Johnston Street. Thanks for your support!

I found this posted a week ago on their Facebook page

When did it go back to preorder? I was at the Farmer's Market like 2 or 3 weeks ago.

this is a classic example of Louisiana corruption & wasted money, resources, & time.

the people "in charge" of this multi-year project has stolen money year over year to the tune of millions.

You can email them: info@moncuspark.org

It seems like a money grab at this point. They keep reaching out for donations to fund additional projects. It will be intresting to see how they maintain them in the future.

I work several blocks from the Farmers Market/Moncus Park. The tin roof on the old cattle barn peeled back like a sardine can during Hurricane Delta. Definitely not related to the grand opening delay. However it will take months to repair the roof like all other city / government BS. I'm guessing Spring 2021 it will finally open to the public. This whole concept has been going on for 15+ years and I too am tired of waiting.

Interesting history, the "horse farm" was never actually a horse farm, it was a dairy cow operation. Some may remember the silos and the big tall red barn that was used to store hay. The cattle operation eventually moved to the UL Research farm in Cade. Around 1990, my friends wife (then USL student) helped continue the equestrian riding program for students. She was allowed to keep her personal horses on the property which were used for riding. Growing up in Lafayette during the 80's and 90's you would always see horses in the pasture property and that's kinda how the current name stuck.

I’ve been living here in the back since construction started. Hope it stays closed as I’ve really enjoyed the free space for my tent

I live about a quarter of a mile from it and my friend is subcontracting on the project. From what I've been told, they got a big donation that allowed them to go straight into phase 2. They thought it would take 2-3 years to raise the amount needed but they got it right before phase 1 ended.
