When did you first realize you were too old for competitive sports

Hit a wall tonight playing basketball against some teenagers. Ten years ago I would have handled my own. But tonight I realized just how much time deteriorates the body. I'm not even that out of shape; it's just that I can't move my feet fast enough. Like Paul said, the spirit is willing but the body is weak.

I turn 28 tomorrow. I find I'm losing a step. My mind still thinks my body can get to that spot on the floor, but sometimes my body doesn't cooperate.
It's both humbling and frustrating.

If you train hard you will be competitive

Dunno, I haven't really tried to play any pickup games in a long time.

Played in a full court basketball league when I was around 26. Thought I was gonna die.

Thanks. I think the stay will be short lived. I think I've become too old for tigerdroppings too.

I still had the speed and strength, but I knew the legs were gone. I couldn't jump as high anymore.

I saw a real decline in my mid - late twenties. I still worked out as much as ever, but really saw a difference in healing time from injuries, etc...got to a point where I just couldn't stay healthy for long enough to be in the shape that I was used to being in and the fun was gone from it all...

I'm 27, takes me a little longer to get going but I'm fine. Once I'm warm I'm still as quick as i was.

When I got to college and played intramurals. Too many guys who didn't get their chance in high school that took it too serious.

When was the last time you took it to the Ritz. I heard you advanced up in the ranks in recent years. Hope you'll be a HC one day.

He hit the wall in college against kids that sucked in high school!

I'm 27 and I feel as in shape and as competitive as I ever have in pick up basketball and soccer....ran my first sub 6 minute mile of my life last week. I also do CrossFit, so there's that. According to this board, I should be crippled with a herniated disc with multiple SLAP tears whilst simultaneously blowing several men. So maybe I've got CrossFit all wrong.

'm 39, but I'm still getting stronger and more flexible, so I should be able to keep up with people in their 20s. Of course, I've always a perfectly average athlete--one of the best players on the field in a pickup game with random people, but I'd get eaten for lunch by real athletes.
