I'd say that it is a primary factor the increased life spans. There are far too many variables to put a number on hygiene and medicine. Caveat on the medicine - there are a lot of factors in medicine that pull the number back down, including doctors who inadvertently kill people and "medicine" that harms people.
You're ignoring far too many other factors jumping to this arbitrary 60 number, which makes no sense relative to your point about children.

Evidently you need to look up what "abstract" means. You're not mind reader.

If there's a study for 50-year-olds or 40-year-olds then post it.

You went to that number just like you went to the Civil War Era. No one made you do that. You chose them. I've already given you other factors, but you are underestimating how complex this is. For instance, why do so many elderly people kill themselves? Pain is going to be a primary factor. And years of bad diet is often the primary factor for pain later in life. So these factors are really intertwined.

Civil war because of the toilet paper. Imagine being a germaphobe and not using toilet paper... It was in the OP

quote:

modern commercially available toilet paper didn't originate until 1857, when Joseph Gayetty of New York marketed a "Medicated Paper, for the Water-Closet,” sold in packages of 500 sheets for 50 cents

You brought up life expectancy being half what it is today. Then you're upset when I post data about life expectancy to prove you wrong?

You could do that with all sorts of things in the past that don't match up to people's standards today. That doesn't mean people need to go backwards on their standards. I'm sure you have many habits that you don't want to go backwards on...

You tried to skew the numbers. Nothing you have posted has been rational. If anything, you have put your own mental health in question.

To deny that better hygiene is a primary factor in increased life spans is absurdly irrational.

Whatever you need to tell yourself to justify gloves to pump gas Buddy. No one hinted that showers are an issue. no wonder yoga is so popular, got to stay limber to open bathroom doors.

I've never used gloves to pump gas, but it's not a bad idea.

Convenience Stores Stay Vigilant on Gas Pump Sanitation

Gas pump handles top study of filthy surfaces (Pre-COVID)

And I definitely wouldn't be offended and whine about it if I saw others doing it.

You're okay with showers???? But OMG, how many showers did they take during the Civil War Era????

By the way, I did a search on that quote with the date of 1857 because you irrationally don't provide links when you quote. Evidently you got it from this article.

Your OP says after the Civil War. The War started in 1861, you backward frick. What a disaster of a thread.

I've been called a germophobe because I don't eat or drink after anyone.
