Used to always say/hear, "I'm going to call in sick tomorrow"... now I hear people say "I'm calling out tomorrow"

Why do they call it taking a dump when you’re not actually taking one, you’re leaving one.

It’s always been “I’m calling out.” Now a days people say “Calling in”.

I remember the first time I ever heard this it was from a new colleague from New Jersey. Maybe it’s a yankee thing.

I'm calling in Well. I feel too good to come to work.

About 5 years ago, people started saying they would be “out of pocket” when they would not be reachable via phone, email, etc. “Out of pocket” means, and has always meant, paying for something yourself. It’s like some executive bigwig said it once out of ignorance and their subordinates were too scared to correct them.
