I keep seeing threads here that make me think the same thing:
We are doing a real disservice to the adolescents of this country.
Youth sports were great when they were kept firmly on the "back burner" compared to academics. The same is true of any number of other things that I see talked about a lot here: parties, dances, student government, sex ed, drinking, part-time jobs...
Teenagers need a lot of love. The focus needs to be on helping them survive their adolescence with their bodies, futures, and dignity mostly intact.
It DOES NOT matter who can hit a slider, who gets to be SGA Dictator, who is friends with who, etc.
ETA it doesn't even matter all that much who winds up at SLU vs. LSU vs. Vanderbilt, if they've grown up well.
Kids have always struggled to admit and live out these truths. Nowadays, I see adults failing at it, too, and failing profoundly.

Haha, what state was this in? I think the ump would have had a case under Stand Your Ground.
