4 seems like it would be tough between father/daughter or mother/son. I love my mother dearly but it’s just different. She doesn’t know how to turn off mom mode.

#4. I’d go to prison to save him the sentence. Full admission of the crime

1 , He's dead and the world is a better place without him

Don’t hate him. Got no reason to talk to him.

- Professional rodeo clown
- SF in Nam
- Pro-Am bass fisherman
- Hell of an outdoorsman
- He new calligraphy
- Could also draw very well
But choose alcohol over his three boys!
Not much respect and he's dead. Had a chance to leave a legacy behind him.....choose a fricking vodka bottle.

been gone for 16 years. was one of my best friends and greatest mentor till the day he passed. 16 years later I still miss him everyday and occasionally still have dreams about him.

3. When you're a child, your parents are like gods full of love and fear. When you get older you realize they're broken humans just like yourself.

#4 he’s been gone 17 years now. Sometimes I still reach for my phone to call him. I strive to be like him. He’s the best man I’ve ever known.

His last 10 years were bad. My mom did everything she could to make him a better man. She died of cancer in 2010 (after 11 yrs of fighting)... she knew she was not gonna be around so she remodeled the kitchen and hired a trainer to try and get my dad in decent health.
She died, and he quit exercising. Hit the bottle hard, but not as hard as Fox News. That was his life. Became a bitter old man who viewed the world through the Fox News scope.
He was a miserable F at the end and I thank COVID for taking him in 11 days. If not for that, he would've survived a nuclear holocaust.
Before all that, he was a trip. We played golf a lot and had a great relationship.

3.
Dad and I had a couple of fallings out through my late teens and I held quite a grudge for a long time. We still talked some but I didn't want much to do with him. As I've grown older I have realized what and why he did those things, and while I still think he chose other things over me in critical moments, I understand him better. He and I are a lot more alike than I would've admitted just 6-7 years ago. Now that I have kids, I want them to have a relationship with him and that's helping to mend ours.

1 before he died 16 years ago. There were some good memories when I was young but the bottle turned him into a verbally abusive drunk when I was a teenager.

4. That's my dog. He's always been my go to person for anything I need in life. Couldn't live without him.
We talk weekly. I make it a point to visit my parents monthly despite living a few hours away.
My Dad is one of my best friends.
We don't agree on everything, but my Dad is pretty laid back and understanding about most things.
He is pretty awesome.

Fairly close still, surprisingly still alive. Dad is in his mid 70s, drank hard and smoked a many cigarettes, his parents both died young due to heart attacks. Dad was a calm drunk but hard on us when young, very little patience until he got drunk. He got healthy in his early 50s and still does well. I see him about once a month, don’t talk on the phone much though. He’s a quiet man

Same here, and ever since I was just 8 years old back in 61, so I never really got to know my dad since he worked so much when I was a kid.
I did get real close to my now late father-in-law and he was born just 2 days before my dad was born in 1926 and lived to be 84 before cancer took him. I loved that old man and feel honored to have know him.

God I wish it were 4, hoping everything I do now makes it 4 for my son.

4. Neither one of us are great communicators, but I love him and always appreciate what he's done as a father for me.

my dad was the greatest man I've ever known, he passed 19 years ago, not a day goes by that I don't think of him, and when I have a big issue requiring judgement and a big decision I always draw on his example for guidance

Younger days...
A little bit of 2 and slowly edging closer to 3.
These days... A lot of 3 and moving more and more to 4
