I need prayers for special intentions.

That's my favorite.. The vague and ambiguous mystery prayers.
When the secret intention is the successful completion and detonation of a pipe bomb in a crowded area with women and children.

Sure let me pray for your secret intention.

I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything to make me believe there's one all-powerful force controlling everything. There's no mystical energy field that controls my destiny.

I laugh at people who ask for prayers for anything on Facebook. I laugh even harder when people reply with "prayers sent." 99% of those people just want to reaffirm their friendship and didn't even pray for them. So stupid

You can certainly argue your own view of a deity and that deity's interaction with humans. However, to say prayers don't do shite assumes you actually know everything about any deity. You also miss the fact that prayers in and of themselves make some people feel better, often through hope. Many people pray together and share their struggles through prayer, which can result in a sense of support from prayer partners.

So prayers actually can do a lot even if you do not agree that a deity is actually answering them.

That was not my argument, yet I'm sure some would make that claim.

My parents are pretty religious so I keep my agnostic atheism to myself, but I do subscribe to your theory about prayer. So I do pray with them for the reasons you stated.

Fantastic. What a great way to show love and support for loved ones even in times of disagreement.
