Probably the dude who cuts across 3 lanes of traffic at the last second because you didn't know your exit was coming up.
If the trip is long enough to have to check how long it will take, then the time will probably change on your way. Re-routes around traffic is the best reason to use gps. But if you need to turn it off to feel manly you do you.

I don’t use GPS or mapping services anyways because I’m a male but I use them to see how long the drive will take before turning them off when we start driving.
Is it manly to sit in traffic jams or something? I use Google maps almost every single day. 99% of the time, it sends me on the same route I'd usually take. The other 1% it saves me from massive backups before I get stuck between exits. I swear, if I forget to tell it to navigate, there is going to be a wreck on I-10.

For the life of me I can't figure out why Google and Apple Maps don't have a driving mode like Waze
Google maps absolutely has active navigation that uses updated traffic. All I do is hop in the truck and say "Hey Google, navigate to work."

For navigation - Waze
For general map work - Google Earth

Yeah, but I mean I want to have it on passively, alerting me while I’m driving around town, without navigating.
Waze does this, but I don’t think the others do. (Google Maps won’t even keep the phone screen from turning off if you’re not actively navigating to a destination, I think.)

I'm a Google Maps guy. Tried Waze a while back and just didn't really do anything better than Google. At the time, the big thing was that you could point things out to warn driver, ie. police. Problem was, I would get to where police were marked and there's no police there.
I swore off Apple Maps years ago. I tried it again recently and, gotta say, they've made great strides on the app. I've been using it more due to those improvements, as well as the easy voice interface with Siri.
