I keep a can of Vienna sausages in the pantry all the time. I'll make a sandwich on the weekends about once a month with just mayo.

store brand burritos.

WTF is wrong with you? I went to French Quarter restaurant in Cypress today and got the blackened catfish over pasta and a bowl of red beans and rice with cornbread because I couldn't decide which one I wanted.

I could have gone anywhere I wanted tonight but, by god, I wanted a red hot beef and bean burrito with Taco Bell fire sauce.

I ate damn good twice today. Don't knock it until you try it.

Chicken thighs, an onion and a potato. $1.50 yops per serving. Have no idea why thighs get a bad rap. Good chicken meat. I only use in gumbo and when I am poor though.

PB&J
Cereal
Peanuts

A lot of you listed Soul Food like Greens or beans/peas and cornbread, if that's poor food then I would be satisfied eating a lot of "poor food" most every night.

My great grandma used to get that govt cheese back 30+ years ago and that shite was better than anything you could buy. Made some killer grilled cheese or Mac and cheese. They also gave out honey I think, which isn't cheap either. I love honey on biscuits, oatmeal, etc.

Anyone who has spent any time in college and wasn't born with a silver spoon up their butts or $10k /semester in pale grants knows the basic food groups:

1. Ramen noodles
2. Some derivative of processed protein depending on what was on sale the day you ran outta food (spam, Bologna, or those cheap red Weiners)
3. Coffee...coffee.... lots and lots of coffee. And yes, I said coffee. Community coffee (dark roast), Perc'ed in a Mister Coffee. Not no frappacrappalappacino or starbucks.

This combo got me through 5 years of college.

Yeah, I think heard crawfish use to be an actual poor people's food at one time. Not sure if true or not?

Certainly doesn't count for this thread now.
