Depressed dude I work with

Happy and drinks alcohol - never mean. Super friendly

He is late at times when he binges but is one heck of an employee

Or

Irritable and kind of an arse while taking medication? Late every single day and worthless at work

Yup, I work at a garbage pit and have to babysit grown adults all day

Umm obviously the one that's a great employee is better than the worthless one.

Do I keep allowing it knowing he’s drunk all day?

Depends, does his job have the potential to endanger the lives/property of others? ie, does he operate an excavator or something like that?

As long as you keep him on fry duty instead of at the window you'll probably be alright

Let me guess....you are really the degenerate alcoholic in this story and you are here seeking approval of your frequent tardiness and hoping the boss man is going to fire the other guy instead of you on Friday?

Just make sure those chicken sandwiches are ready when I pull up to the window.

As long as you don’t work construction or another job that a drinker could get someone around him hurt........ and he’s a good emoloyee....... who cares? Maybe he’s a damn good employee because he drinks. I’ll take that employee every time.

Right? Why both are still employed is beyond me.

Also, if anything ever happens on the job with the alcoholic and you have knowledge or know he is intoxicated or under the influence (ie this thread could be used as evidence), you are opening yourself and your company up for a world of hurt.

When I first became a manager it was eye opening how big of babies some adults are.

The worst are the older guys that are still mid to senior level and aren’t going any higher. They are usually high maintenance and worthless.

I’d have a one on one talk with him. Not a ‘warning’ per say, but let him know, that you know. He’s prob delusional and thinks just because he’s doing a decent job, nobody knows he has a problem, but it’s starting to hinder his logistics of the job. It may wake him up and be all he needs.

Most heavy drinking, functional alcoholics think they keep their issue a secret from everyone but at the end of the day they are just delusional.
