Back in 1996 I was flying with the First Lady Clinton into Bosnia. Was supposed to be a routine flight, no worries. Instead, on approach we came under fire, had to corkscrew in, and upon landing had to run off the C-17 under sniper fire.

Scary stuff. Never again.

SLC flying into Jackson Hole. Terrible turbulance the whole way. Several on plane threw up. About 1,000 feet off the ground, the pilot pulls up due to another plane being on the runway. Scary as hell and everyone who wasn't sick before got sick.

Yes...Fvck that flight. I just got back from there and I drove from SLC this time. I wouldn't drive that shite in the winter though.

Just out of curiosity, why a C-17 instead of one of the VIP birds out of Andrews?

Hands down...back in the late 70s, there was an airline, Royale Airlines, that flew around Louisiana. I was on a flight from Shreveport to Lafayette with a stop at Folk Polk. We hit a storm around Eunice and for 30 minutes, the little plane was all over the sky. I have never been so scared in my life, before or since. We finally landed in Lafayette and I heard the pilot say that he landed in a 25 mph cross wind.
Two weeks before, I had taken the same flight in perfect weather and remember remarking how young the pilots were.
After the last flight, I got off the plane thinking that had they been piloting this flight , we would not have made it. The two pilots on the last flight were older and much more experienced.
Since, I have always judged turbulence by that flight. No flight has come close.

re: What's the Worst flight you've ever been on (Posted on 7/18/14 at 1:35 pm to TheIndulger) Mine was on a red-eye Turkish Air Airbus A340-300 from Newark to Istanbul. We had a full flight of burka wearing women who all smelled like they hadn't showered in a week. One hour in and the A/C in the cabin stopped working. Two hours in and the Turkish foreign exchange student, freaking fugly and wreaking of stench, wants my to try to teach her how to play Sudoku. In hour 4 the airplane's cabin temp had to be around 85 and we hit some pretty bad turbulence over the Atlantic. There must have been at least 10-15 people vomit including the student sitting next to me. The vomit smell filled the air and began to mix with the warm stink of bad BO. Hour 5 my onboard entertainment set went out, so the crew moved me to the only seat that was available. Happy to be moving away from the foreign exchange student, my feelings quickly changed to depression when I realized that my seat was now between two overweight elderly Turkish women who quickly began using my lap as knitting work bench. The rest of the flight was spent trying to sleep but it was just impossible with the heat, smell, and getting my skinny arse sandwiched between two heifers.

You win.

I am (tongue in cheek) re-telling the story of her visit to BiH in 1996. Based on what I read of her harrowing flight, she came into Tuzla on a C-17. Probably flew in from Ramstein if that is the case.

Did a leg a few years back Nashville> Newark>Brussels > Tel Aviv. The flight from Nashville to Newark was on an embraer (sp). Not a big plane. Some big arse dude that is about 6'7", 310 is having stomach problems. He gets up just after take off and goes to the bathroom. Apparently this cat is too big or in too much of an emergency to get fully turned around and he shits in the sink.

The flight attendants are livid, and the pilot makes an announcement that the bathroom is out of order for the remainder of the flights while laughing his arse off over the intercom. The whole plane smelled like shite for the 2 and a half or so hours. It was awful.

the pilot puts the plane into a 30 degree dive for about 3 minutes. Never came over and said a word about why he did it.

Second, we hit an air pocket (I think thats what pilot said) flying from Atlanta to Denver. Dropped rapidly and oxygen masks dropped and emergency lights flashed. It was over in under 5 seconds and we were fine and stable, but people were saying Hail Mary's and shite. Terrifying.

This happened to my sister when she was 15 and she has been terrified of flying ever since. She went to a shrink about it and took "flying classes" that teach you how to relax on a plane so she flies now but she didn't for about 10 years which was VERY shitty.

Had something similar to that happen flying back from Detroit. People were yelling, screaming, praying. Turbulence was bad for a solid minute then easiest up to light turbulence.

I fly pretty much every week, so there have definitely been some shitty flights.

Bad turbulence while approaching the landing over the mountains in Palm Springs. It was bad enough that we couldn't land and had to eventually land in LA. When we landed in LA they said they were going to try it again in about 30 min but they gave us the option to get off the flight and find other transportation there if we chose to. I decided to get off there and just drive there. I was not going through that again and I'm not a squirmish flyer either.

Was in a firefight for 3 days in Yusufiyah and finally got a bird to evac out. 4 miles out the rear prop got hit by a rpg. Landing sucked. Got back to fob a couple days later with whole crew.

Romanian airlines. New Delhi to Frankfurt. The plane was cold, smelly and no personal entertainment. Everyone clapped once we landed. So did I.

Coming back from San Antonio to Houston. Plane struck by lighting twice.

Loudest sound I have ever heard. Plane dropped on both instances and all I could do was hug my iPad.

Recently had a pretty rough turbulence encounter. Not your typical stuff either, but again - nothing you can do but tighten your seat belt and say a prayer.

One more. Landed in Corpus Christi. Very hard landing. Almost as if the under portion of the tail hit the ground. Flight attendant comes on the PA and says, "It certainly wasn't our fault. And it wasn't the pilot's fault. It was the asphalt!"
