Any of them in Florida. I'd give Jacksonville a slight edge.

I have been to Jackson. Memphis is a lot larger which means more trash. It really is bad.

You have to admit Nola is one of the trashiest cities for a few weeks out of the year.

For starters, I don't consider partying to be trashy. Is Brazilian Carnavale trashy? Is Panama Beach spring break trashy? If you consider those trashy then by that logic the only partying that's not trashy are snooty, blueblood banquets and dinner soirees.

Second, that's temporary. Those are events. And most people that cause trouble at those festivals, whether it's eEssence or an celebration like Mardi Gras, come from out of town. It's impossible not to produce trash when you have 1.2M drunk, protestant midwesterners cutting loose in a fun, informal town like New Orleans, after a life of WASPy restraint.

Sure there are nice things to visit, but be here after the streets flood. It's pathetic the amount of litter that accumulates in the gutters and sidewalks once the water goes down

That's a very literal definition of trashy. Nobody here is talking about literally trash.

I was informed that if USA Health (level 1 trauma center) was located anywhere else in Mobile, Mobile would have the highest murder rate in the country.

I doubt this is true. Although I admit it would be significantly higher. The Culcha in Mobile is strong.

Jackson or Ferriday

(Couldn’t resist)

ETA: come to think of it, Jackson is just Ferriday on steroids.

Doesn't even make the list.

Not sure of the year on this one or the minimum population. It's at least 100,000 because Flint Michigan is on the list but it can't be as low as 75,000 because Gary Indiana isn't on the list. It would be top three for sure if not number one.

ETA: 2010 is the year for the above graphic

Where are you from if you consider Ferriday a major city?

That puts Birmingham's 2017 rate at 49.9 killings for every 100,000 people, making it the third most deadly large city in America. Just behind crime kingpins St. Louis and Baltimore. Just in front of Detroit and New Orleans and Jackson, Miss.

quote:

No gloating, though. Birmingham may be the poster child, but Alabama has five cities over 100,000 people, and every single one of them -- Birmingham, Mobile, Montgomery, Huntsville and now Tuscaloosa -- ended up on the violent end of the list. Birmingham, Mobile and Montgomery were all in the top 25 of the nation's most deadly 300 cities. Huntsville was No. 78 and Tuscaloosa, barely making it into the population group, came in 102nd. Together they saw 225 homicides last year. Which is a lot. For reference, New York City, with population nine times those five Alabama cities combined, saw 292 killings last year. And it's not just our bigger cities.

Here's 2016. I'm trying to get newer but most of these only include large cities. I think it's fair to include midsize(as low as 100,000) cities since the South only has a few large cities.

I know, I couldn't think of another example.

My point was, partying is both temporary and doesn't fit the definition of "trashy".

Trashy partying would be a house party on the front lawn of a trailer home attended by a bunch of middle-aged fat bodies drinking Natty Ice and laying in kiddie pools of their own puke. Not a bunch of college kids hanging out at the beach getting drunk. That's what college kids are supposed to do.

How can anyone, with a straight face, name any other than "Trashville", Tennessee?

I mean, it is substantially more well off than Memphis, Jackson, Montgomery, New Orleans, and so forth, and yet, it still caters and panders to hicks and rednecks. The whole image and allure of Nashville is built up for trash.

How much barbecue, fried bologna, chicken, moonpies, and Mountain Dew can one eat and drink?
