Models are different, but it's the same company. Comparable models in comparable price ranges are comparable.

Different movements. Different crystal. Different watches.

Same parent company, but Orient runs as a completely separate and independent unit.

Already been said, but it’s a good watch for the money. I got into watches the last few years and have a couple higher end,
But I have a bambino which I think is a cool design.

I have two....2nd Generation "Bambino" and the "Curator". Think I paid $149 and $299 respectively from Island Watch. Good-looking watches with clean dials, and nice leather straps. Next up is the "Polaris" GMT. For what it's worth, Orient doesn't actually assign names to their watches (only model numbers). The best I can tell, the names mentioned above are the creation of Island Watch. If you order an Orient watch from any place else, you're not likely to see any name whatsoever associated with the watch...only model numbers. Doesn't matter....as I haven't found anyone able to beat the Island Watch price on an Orient watch.

Orient Defender owner here. Best $100 watch I've ever had, and I used to work for a watch company not named Orient/Seiko.

Most of the watch nicknames come from enthusiast forums like WUS. Seiko and Orient probably have the most nicknames with the leader being Seiko divers. Some of the Seiko diver nicks: Tuna, Monster, Mohawk, Turtle, Spork, Shogun, Sumo, Sea Urchin, Samurai, Stargate, Bottlecap and Starfish.

Not many Swiss watches get tagged with nicknames and when they do it is usually connected to either a public person that wears them (occasionally fictional like some Omega Bond watches) or a colorway or dial variation but seldom an actual name for a model since most Swiss and German watches have names as well as alphanumeric designations. Rolex has by far the most nicknames with the Newman and McQueen along with Batman, Hulk, Kermit, Fat Lady, Bart Simpson, Rootbeer, Big Blue, Coke and Pepsi (also used with many divers to denote a red and blue bezel).

The new Mako iii or Kamasu or whatever they are calling it looks really good.

Orient is fine for what it is: a low budget mechanical wristwatch. You might get a little more than what you pay for, but even in the budget range, I would rather a Seiko with a 6R15.

No reason to have a wristwatch in 2019 but if you are going to buy one the only 3 to buy would be Patek, AP, or Rolex. All the others lose tons of value the second the stickers come off them. I would stay away from Omega or Brietling. If you are considering either you might as well just buy an Oris or Tissot.
