What's the process when purchasing a car across state lines?

I've never purchase a car outside of Louisiana. Are there any additional paperwork, fees, and penalties? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Once you purchase you have 40 days to register in LA
Bring title and bill of sale and proof of insurance to local title issuer
10% due then (Texas sale to La )

So TT&L must be paid out of pocket and can't be merged into the loan?

I bought a new Honda in 2006 and also in June of this year in Texas (Houston then Katy). They give you a temporary tag (60 days) and either give you the paper work to take to a DMV where you pay TTL, or they mail the paper work to your local DMV. If they mail it, the DMV will call you when all is ready and you go in and give them a cashiers (be sure to double check the correct amount owed)check for TTL. At that time they give you your Lic Plate and registration card, and mail you your LA title. There are no extra fees involved. It's been very simple for me each time. I wrote the TX dealers a check each time and didn't finance, but they will finance also.
Edit: Since I live in rural LA, my tax was 8%.

Good advice in general is to pay taxes and not roll them into the loan.

If you buy out of state, the money you save will pay for TTL. Dealers in LA are very expensive by comparison.

I think on the last one I bought in TX, the TX dealer calculated the sales tax at the rate for my area, I paid them the sales price and the tax, and they handled everything with LA OMV. I got a plate and title in the mail, then went for a LA inspection sticker,
On one I bought in TX many years back, my local credit union financed it for me. The credit union took care of the LA sales tax and registration process for me. Nice.
Different dealers and lenders may have different practices,

For most people, its a waste to roll taxes and fees into the loan as you will pay interest on taxes and fees.
