I'm talking personality, size, aggression, hunting capabilities. I know there are different breeds of each but I'm just wondering if there's any general similarities or differences
Also could anyone tell me what some really good hog dogs are

Mastiffs are much larger than bulldogs. My buddy's parents have 2. They are like small horses. Theirs are good natured, loyal dogs but I can't really see them as good hunting dogs.

Generally, both breeds have 4 legs, a tongue and a tail.
That's all I got, mate.

Most bulldogs would rather lay around all day, they have lots of skin problems, are relatively friendly. Usually not more than 100lbs unless you got a real fatty.
Mastiffs can get to be over 200lbs and they can be a handfull. Don't know about hunting, but I assume they'd be good for it. Aggression depends on the dog and owner. The ones I've encountered here at the clinic have been fairly mild-mannered to exuberant and friendly. NOT fun to bathe
We have one that comes in for bathing and he's over 150lbs. The owner has to give him a triple dose of Acepro before he brings him in, and it still takes two of us to bathe him!

Both are molossers. Mastiffs are much larger and Bulldog breeds vary so much now in size.
Mastiffs typically have shorter lifespans.
I'd rather have a Johnson American Bulldog over any Mastiff any day of the week tbh.

Just about everything is different other than 4 legs. If you are shopping for one then you shouldn’t also be shopping for the other

Agreed. Or even the Dogo Argentino.

I had a mastiff when I was a kid. Dumb and friendly is the easiest way to describe him. Not aggressive at all but he also didn't know his own size so you had to be careful with him around people. Slobbers a lot. A whole lot. Also eats a ridiculous amount of food. He ate the largest size can of dog food mixed with a large pot of rice two or three times a day.

Yep. I had to clean the yard every day.

I have an Old English bulldog. She weighs 65 pounds and is awesome. She's the happiest dog I've ever owned.
She's pretty much 80% English, 10% American and 10% bull mastiff.

No. Bulldogs are 50 to 55 female; 55 to 60 male.
