Why is this flag everywhere you go around Lafayette and not the state flag? I feel like I never see the actual state flag anywhere around here.

I don’t know. Why would a region, state, or country fly its own flag?

People are proud about their trash status.

Acadiana is a "isolated sub nation" of Louisiana and the USA:
- The Swamp keeps us protected from the trash to the East
- The Gulf Keeps us protected from the trash to the South
- Texas keeps is protected from the trash to the West
- Crawfish ponds keeps us protected from the trash to the North.

Something invented by a USL professor who dedicated his whole life to trying to out-French everyone else.

Went to DIs last night. It was great. Kids had a good time dancing.

The flag was flying there and I got to explain it to the kids when the noticed and asked.

Lead to a history lesson.

It’s Acadiana Strong, recognizing how it’s a great community that came together that everybody has pride in. It started mostly after that theater shooting three years ago

I had a cousin who was a prof at USL. Not Arceneaux, though.

Hate for USL professors?

It’s a flag that symbolizes the Cajun culture from its early struggles to the pride of its perseverance today.

It may have gotten more popular after the shooting but I can remember asking grownups about it as a kid in the 80's. Not just the flag, I mean, but the whole "Acadiana" pride thing.

Wear it proudly on my hiking gear. Great conversation starter on the trail.
