There was an armored car heist in Shreveport about 20 years ago. The total was only around a million dollars, but the events surrounding the heist was a bigger story.

You did pretty good on the summary: LINK

As told by a professor in class when discussing probability…his example involved a Hammond bank that was robbed under odd circumstances.

A train track split a portion of the town off from the rest. The police station was on the opposite side of the tracks from the bank that was robbed. The robbery occurred when the train’s passing coincided with a shift change at the police station.

It may have been bad luck, or, perhaps it was an inside job.

If it was a legit example (he claimed that it was), then it was one that stuck with me.

recall the Capital One on Carrolton was robbed by professionals about 10 years ago that is still unsolved. Had to be an inside job

If you mean the chase Bank from 2013 they arrested a bunch of people involved. Someone inside did tip them off on the truck scheduled though

$10-12M is a lot of $ for a bank robbery. And both in small towns, was anyone ever caught for either?

The takedown of Ouachita National Bank by the perpetrators of the Frenchman's Bend real estate scheme. This led to its takeover by Louisiana National Bank, which couldn't digest all the toxic loans and failed too. Eventually the whole mess got taken over by Chase.

Chase still hates the state of Louisiana from that one.

That was like 2008.
I lived nearby.
It was like a scene from Heat. They were blasting as armored car pulled up for transfer.

[quote]Leesville La Bank and Trust[/Merchants & Farmers Bank on entrance road to Ft. Polk (Johnson). Had a black deputy who used to patronage my restaurant was working the bank at the time. Said all of the robbers wore ATF jackets when they entered the bank after landing their helicopter in front of the bank. Got away but ended up being arrested by trying another heist doing the same thing. Seems the helicopter they stole was set up by another person and he dropped a dime. Town talked about this for years.

Larry Thompson - my mother knew him, guy was a hitman for the Dixie Mafia and the Marcello family. From a non-professional standpoint he was a serial killer.

Might not be the biggest, but John Alexander Castro was an armored car employee in Baton Rouge who walked off with about a million at the end of his shift - leaving his gun and a note to the effect that he was quitting and thanking Loomis for the loan.
He got caught when his house keeper dimed him out to the FBI a few years later. She has been conducting all of his business for him and started charging more for these
services. When he complained, she hammered him.
