Traps work the best, poison will leave you attic smelling like a gut pile in the woods. First an foremost you need to find where they are getting in at and shut that shite down. Had the issue and found where there was a void behind a brick step and then found where they were coming up into the attic by climbing the inside of the wall. Look for a perfect circle in your insulation. Fix those issues then killing the mice is easy. You went to get them before they start dropping babies then you will never find where the smell is coming from when they die

I have a couple cups of coffee. That helps clear the cobwebs too.

Most effective way is to wait for the next flood and then torch the house. None can escape then.
If you mean how while still maintaining the house as a living space....I got nothing. Still better than you with a mouse problem though.

we used the glue traps. put a morsel of the dog's food in the middle. were mouse free in less than a week.

This happened to us one time. We finally got rid of them by going to the hardware store and buying the box of poison that has little green pellets inside. Toss those all over your attic and the mice will eat and then leave to go find water and die.
They will be dead in a week.

A Bowl of Peanut Oil Catches 7 Mice in 1 Night
This is the cheapest trap I have found that works really well for multiple mice. This guy comes up with some ingenious mouse traps.

I have a sneaking suspicion that there's a snake in mine, sometimes I hear sliding noises at night when its quiet, but I'm not scared of snakes, I dont store anything in my attic, and in the 7 years I've been there I've never seen a creature in my house bigger than a spider, so if he is he can stay there for all I care.

Throw a couple of rat snakes up there.

i guess as long as the snake stays on his side of the ceiling, all is good?
until the AC repairman shows up.

Gf and her mom put pellets out before I could tell them otherwise.
They have been dealing with a dead rat smell in two rooms for three days now

Snap traps with peanut butter, don’t use poison
Posted on 1/9/19 at 8:23 am to dustytiger123
Dealt with this issue. Don't use poison or glue traps. The best method is the old school mouse traps baited with peanut butter or a nut. Keep the traps against a wall or beam. They have poor eyesight, and usually follow the walls. Periodically move them as they get smart to them.
Here's your problem. You will have the same problem, every year, until you seal the outside of your house. They got in some way, and they will keep coming back, usually when it gets cold.
I ended up hiring pest control, they do a complete inspection of your outer house and seal up every possible hole that they can get through. Then, they give you a 1 year guarantee against any more in the house. But it's expensive as shite. Worth it, though, when they start moving down the walls and into the house.

That definitely works, if your only openings are weep holes.
And FYI, not sure what type of dryer vent cover you have, but the old school ones that are just open? Simply a warm doorway for outside rats and mice to enter. Make sure you get the ones with the closing flaps that only open when the dryer is blowing.
