I am working in Kenner at MSY. Our rain gauge at MSY picked up 2.30 inches of rainfall in 36 minutes. So far today, we officially collected 3.68 inches.

2.3" in 36 minutes is a lot of rain. I got to a friend's house in Metairie a little after 5:00. I was surprised by how full the canals were, but I guess that explains it.
