My parents are buying my nephew a new 2016 Ford F-150 XLT Crew Cab for his 17th birthday.
They are under the impression that these can be had for better prices in TX, so they've tasked me with getting this thing.
He doesn't need 4x4 or a top of the line, loaded out truck, but they don't want to get him just a basic work truck either, so XLT seems like a good trim level.

Are there still offering $10k factory rebates on these things? They'd like to keep it under $30k or close. Any advice on negotiating a better deal? I really really hate the whole car buying process.

He doesn't need a new truck. Get him a good used one and make him appreciate the new one.

$10k off or so seems to be the going rate for '16s. Tell them to check for any leftover '15s, you can easily get $12k or more.

Dang, I wish my Aunt/Uncle bought me a brand new truck
But why are they set on buying a "brand new" truck especially if they want to keep it under 30k? You could buy a fully loaded 4x4 that is a couple of years old for that price and get a lot more truck that is still going to be worth more a few years down the road. And 30k opens up a hell of a lot of options, they should ask him what he wants especially if he is a car guy.

Not my decision. They've done this for all their other grandkids and for my siblings and I.

You're not going to save much buying 1-2 year old used. Truck market just doesn't work that way. Only way to get any real savings is to go high mileage, which means no factory warranty and likely a beat on truck.

They need to get him the older model Ford. They look WAAAAYYYYYY better than the new models. Ford F-150 ruined its look.

I bought a 2016 XLT in Texas recently. This is accurate.

It's their grandson. My nephew. He asked for the F-150. It's what he wants. They can go over $30k within reason, but obviously want to get the best price.

They don't want to buy him used. This vehicle will be his transportation at college and beyond, until he graduates, gets a job and then can buy his own vehicle.

You can get a better price in a larger city.

Having said that, if you call a local sales manager and tell him you're going to texas for a better deal, he would be a fool to let you walk.

Invoice price should get the dealer 8ish percent in profit.

I live in Dallas, that's why they asked me to handle this. From what I can tell, most Ford dealers here have huge inventory's compared to New Orleans area. I'm assuming this will work in my favor.

Domestic trucks depreciate like crazy, Im sitting here looking at higher trim level 2013-2014 4x4 f150s listed from 21-28k all with less than 50k miles.

I've bought the last dozen vehicles in Texas and consistently 5-8% cheaper than Louisiana. Last few have been from Lewis Chevrolet in Canton but a few from Williams Ford in Gladewater.

Just get online and start looking.
