The biggest mistake is that the kid told you he had $20 on him. You offered the kid food you had brought to the outing, he declined because that’s not what he wanted. It sounds like the kid is definitely used to getting his way and you handled it accordingly.

It’s dumb to give kids shite on field trips. Just eat the fricking sand-which in the ziplock and drink their Capri suns and enjoy the field trip. Especially depending on the ages buy your kids shite another day. They don’t need a frozen banana just let them do their thing with the rest of the class . Gift shop on field trip is beyond ridiculous. Teachers hate you now.

When I was 11 years old I was mowing yards for my extras. My father was a plant manager for Exxon/Mobil and could afford the extras. He taught me the value of money and how to manage it. The kids sounds not too bright.
