LSU Athletic Department was my first job that I had to pay taxes at. Worked there starting at age 16 until I could get a normal job at age 18. Before that I framed houses during the summer starting at age 14 for my uncle.

No way! I haven't seen a bale of hay in at least 25 years. Or are you talking about the big communist round bales? Hell, son, that ain't hauling hay.

I'm 26 and I have hauled more than my fair share of a true bale of hay. First real job was a hybrid. My dad owned a commercial refrigeration business and also inspected homes on the side. My main job was to help him with the houses, but when he didn't have any scheduled I'd go out with his refrigeration crew. Got paid $50 per house and a percentage of what his hourly rates were for refrigeration. It was hard work but I loved it.

You can say that again, in high school I worked for one of my dad's clients on his cattle ranch. I absolutely loved that job.

Done it many days.

Luckily we were decommissioning the square baler about the time I started my farm job. I had thrown more than my share as a kid and boy was it ever nice to let that green machine pick them up for me.

I was lucky enough to come around after he made the switch. If I could break into it I would sure love to do that for a living, it's just too hard for an outsider to come in and make any money

It's nice just to work for somebody. They eat the losses and you get to be farmer john with a steady paycheck.

Like I said earlier, if I could have made a decent living as a farm hand there's no way I would have ever even considered college.
