'89 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.6.... It was tiny. I was huge. Wasn't the best fit for a brother but looking back it wasn't that bad of a ride.

1994 Nissan pickup with 280,000 miles on it. Bought it for $1900 in 2010. Timing chain wore through the guides and water jacket and mixed coolant with the oil; ran like that for another 7000 miles or so just being careful not to overheat it
sold it to an old man who fixed the motor and still see it around town all the time.

Great stories, y'all.
Thanks for all the responses and stories. I can't help but smile and laugh when I read some of them. Even if it was a piece of junk, most people have an emotional attachment to their first car. Especially if it was something you worked for. It may have been ugly, it may have been unreliable, but it was freedom and empowered you to begin making your way in the world waiting for you.

Would pass everything on the highway but a gas station.
Manual steering that would whoop your arse.

My first vehicle was a Yamaha Special.
Got it and my "motor-driven cycle" learner's permit when I turned 14. This allowed me to operate any street legal motorcycle 150cc or below on the highway. The Yamaha Special had a 50cc engine. Damn thing was doing good to get over 55 mph going down hill.

When I was growing up in Alabama, you could get a motorcycle driver's license when you turned 14. I graduated high school in 1984 and it was still that way then. That seems laughable now. When I was a freshman, the school bus driver was a 16 year old 11th grader. You'd see students pulling out of the schools driving the buses with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths. Was definitely a different time.

Same here. I use to ride that little Yamaha to school almost daily starting the last few weeks of my 8th grade year (my birthday is in May). I'd bet parents would lose their minds nowadays at the idea of a 14 yr old operating anything on the highway, much less a motorcycle.
