It's a tie between the Ninja Turtles set (action figures, technodrome, and sewer) when I was 5 or the Power Rangers set (original action figures and Zords) When I was 8. Though I think at least 2-3 Christmases were pretty Power Rangers-centric.

The happy one: Myself and brother getting Pokemon red and blue. We didn't leave each others side for a week playing it together and figuring everything out as we went along.
The sad one: A Talkboy. It's a long story, but the short of it is about how I begged for one after seeing Home Alone. I came from a home where affection was seen as a weakness and love was not something used often.
When I got it I could hardly contain myself. I asked my father to record himself saying that he loved me in it. To my surprise he did. Anytime I felt down as a kid, anytime I needed to feel loved, I'd listen to it. I ended up burning the tape out from overuse.
Since I depended on it for emotional support, I got mad that it didn't work anymore and threw it on the ground accidentally destroying it.

Mine was an electric football set...looking back on it, it was horrible; but at the time I was so happy

I can't remember being more excited than when I got my first 20 gauge. What's cooler than getting a gun when you're 8 years old?
Honorable mention: one year I got ALL the ninja turtle stuff, and they were huge in the early 90's. Got the sewer, all the characters, and the pizza thrower vehicle. That thing was ballin.

Two of mine:
Anybody remember what they called those little hand held devices that were like a double wire frame that a little wheel would go up and down and around over as you tilted your hand up and down? Had fun with those also.
nvm: Here it is - Gyrowheel:
