I had very few issues finding alcohol in my high school years, during the early 2000s. Didn't ever have a fake ID, just the nerve to walk up to a counter or into a bar and buy it.
Same. We also used to pull “hey misters” where we’d randomly ask some guy pumping gas. 5/10 they’d say yes. We’d give them a few beers for doing so.
Drinking age needs to be changed back to 18.

I turned 18 in 1986 and that allowed me to go to bars and buy beer and alcohol legally. I don't remember there being anything tied to the age of 21 until they changed the law.

You could legally purchase, drink and get into bars at age 18 until August of 1995. In August the legal drinking age changed from 18 to 21. Many bars still allowed you to get in, but you were not allowed to purchase or drink. Seems that I recall hearing of a law that allowed you to drink at 18 if your parents were supervising, but I’m not sure if there is any truth to that.
I turned 18 in 1994 and I seem to recall some sort of grandfather clause for people who were over 18 but not yet 21 when the law passed.
I could totally be misremembering since I didn’t drink until much later in life, but I recall going to bars with friends who were my age after the law changed and them being served.
Of course …it could just be that those establishments broke the law but I do seem to recall something that accounted for those who were between 18-20 when the law passed.
