I mean the guy had to be somewhat smart to be banking $20 billion a year back in the 80's and early 90's right? I've looked around but of course it's only speculation by internet wizards.

quote:

As there are no official records of his IQ all we can do is postulate a likely score based on what we know of his life and business. We all know to reach the top of a business and become a CEO or company boss/owner requires an above level of intelligence. Whilst Pablo’s business was illegal nevertheless he was still the CEO and company boss. His business success was dependent on many skills that correlate with an above average level of intelligence. He had to understand maket conditions, logistics, smuggling techniques, LE methadologies, banking law and psychology to name a few important aspects involving successfully lording it over a drug empire. Another important factor to consider is that his mother was a school teacher. The advantages of this for bringing a natural intelligence to fruition are obvious. Moreover, it can be said without a shadow of doubt that Pablo was a psychopath. The relevance of this is that research into the IQ scores of psychopaths consistently reveal they have an IQ that is generally above average. In fact they more often than not have exceptional IQs Given all of the above we could safely guess that his IQ was most probably in the range between 120 to 140. Going halfway between the two scores would give a likely mean IQ of 130 . This would place him in the top 15% percentile according to the distribution of the IQ bell curve.

You have to be pretty sharp to build a global organization like that. But what set him apart was the fact that he was a ruthless sociopath.

Academic intellect and street smarts are not even remotely the same thing.

His business plan was opportunistic and involved guns, pussy, and a shitload of cocaine.

A lot of the money he made he gave back to the poor. He built schools, roads, communities with full running water and electricity. He was a hero to many. There are some awesome documentaries about his life and what all he did. He loved soccer and flew the national soccer team to one of his compounds so he could watch them practice....and also to play with them.

To the people to crossed him, got in the way of his path to success, or stole from him....a hero he was not.

I took an online test that said my IQ was 148

I took another test that suggested my spirit animal was a platypus or tree stump

Well known he was a psychopath. It's pretty incredible though that the guy was making more per year in his prime than the GDP of more than half countries in the world (individually).

And his willingness to intimidate, terrorize and kill certainly enhanced his ability to be "effective competitor" in the market he served.

I remember reading an article years ago that stated most mobsters in the US had lower IQs than average when they were tested by federal prison psychs

What set them apart from average joes was their willingness to commit violence to get what they want or when they felt disrespected

Probably low considering a lot of dumb shite he did. He murdered his way to the top, not a lot of brains there.

My understanding is he applied those tactics later in his career and less so while he was rising up the cocaine chain.

I can't explain it to anyone that doesn't have an IQ of at least 146

130 is not particularly high. I would guess he was closer to mid 150s.
