What happened here?

I’ve always wondered about that little town in the middle of nowhere.

Venice/buras used to be a decent area. Oil field booming. I remember spending weeks there.

Abita Springs area. Could have been the home of Disney World.

Bogalusa, The Interstates avoided it and it dried up on the vine.

Bogalusa was always just an artificial town, built solely for the paper mill in relatively short time.

Shreveport was bigger than Dallas, Louisiana banking laws and an airplane crash that contained many of the scions of the city was a death blow.

Natchitoches and Ruston. Both have decent sized universities. Quaint downtown area Both off Interstates Neither seems to have grown over the past decade or so.

Ruston is damn near unrecognizable from what it was 10 years ago.

Harrisonburg. Lacked one vote in the legislature being state capital.

Politics. Governor got pissed at locals and changed the plans that had LA 71 going through Melville. Think they were also denied a bridge over the Atchafalaya.

At one time it was pretty prominent. Had a railroad bridge, port, LA 10 with ferry.

Hammond doesn’t lack anything I need. I like it small, bigger is not better. Despite the demographics it’s a wonderful place to live

Truthfully? Given LSU, its central hub of government, the tonnage of the port of WBR, and other factors- - Baton Rouge is the answer.

If they let the river do what it wanted, Morgan City would be underwater.

About 50 years ago Baton Rouge and Austin, TX were basically identical cities.

Agreed. We don’t need anyone else here. When SLU is on break it becomes more of a sleepy little town, and it’s great.

La tech and ULM should have been one school in Monroe. If Baptist weren’t allergic to fun it would be a nice little college town
