I think we've given the world a huge amount of Music. Most of the American songs in the past regardless of genre and now are played everywhere. When going abroad, I'm surprised by how many knew of the artist we listen to in America.

My favorite poet/author.

I had a friend taking a community college course that had to write a 2 page essay on Poe. He was complaining on Xbox one night about how he couldn't come up with anything for the last half page (he's not very smart). I told him I knew a decent amount about him and that I could help him out. He responded by saying "frick it. I'm just going to say the reason he wrote about The Raven was because he loved birds and had a collection of them."

I asked if that was true and he said he didn't know. So me and our buddies laughed at him and started coming up with random Edgar Allan Poe facts. Saying "Well shite if you're going to put that in there you might as well say he was a black tar heroin addict and was a greeter at Wal-Mart later in life"

Philo Farnsworth and the television set he invented as an Idaho farmboy in the 1920s

The problem with television is that people must sit and keep their eyes glued to the screen; the average American family hasn't time for it. Therefore the showmen are convinced that for this reason, if no other, television will never be a serious competitor of broadcasting. -- New York Times editorial, 1939
