He was also told that LSU could not have a football team so he built the dorms in the shape of a horseshoe and the football team was born.

This is very wrong

The town of Eros was once as big or bigger than Monroe. In 1920 a tornado hit the town and destroyed the saw mill. There was a bank, newpaper, doctor offices and hotels there. The brick bank vault stood for years at the basket ball court. Now the populations is less than 100.
Wouldn't it be great to have a big city named Eros, LA

Russel Long would not support or allow the Earned Income Tax Credit to pass out of committee until New Orleans was approved for an NFL team. That's how we got the Saints.

Sen. Long and Sen. Ellender both wanted a pool and tennis courts in the center of the Hart Senate office building when it was appropriated. They basically wanted to install a country club in the center of the building.

I find that all too often whites use facts such as, "Some blacks owned slaves" or "Not all slaves were beaten harshly and constantly" to try to normalize the institution or somehow lessen the evil of it.

Not my argument.

The existence of history does not need justification. Horrible things happened. That can't be changed. But even in the midst of horrible things, beautiful things can happen.

I believe the legislation involved was the NFL partial anti-trust exemption, which made possible the national NFL TV deal

Supposedly the bill was coming up when Long asked Rozelle about NO getting a franchise. Rozelle told him after the bill was passed he'd give serious consideration to putting a team in NO.

Long looked at him a while, then said, "Well... We can wait until you know for sure."

Rozelle immediately replied, "Senator, NO has an NFL team."

Whatever the case, we owe the Saints to Russell Long, Hale Boggs, and LA politics as usual

There was a community of free black slaveowners in NO. See The Feast of All Saints by Anne Rice.

Trying to suppress, ignore, or deny actual history that doesn't fit a particular narrative is maddening.

Yes it is

I've been reading up on the Seminole wars or "Gullah Wars" and it is a very interesting topic.
