There are still several out of the way places with what some would term "racist" names.

They aren't on many of the newer maps, but if you look on the older maps, you'll find such gems as:

The Crawfish Book by Glen Pitre talked about this. They have no idea what caused it. It was a storm so possibly a tornado.

Last naval battle of the American Revolutionary War in Louisiana was off the shore in Mandeville.

The first city of Lafayette was founded between New Orleans and Carrollton.

When New Orleans annexed Lafayette, it freed the name up for use by the town of Vermilionville.

Lafayette Cemeteries #1 and #2 along Washington Avenue in New Orleans are named after the old city.

So fitting......

When Francis T Nichols was nominated for Governor after the Civil War the nominator said, "I'd like to nominate Francis Nichols, or whats left of him, for Governor". COL Nichols lost an arm and a leg in two different battles.

Why, because of a fricking newspaper article? Those are the most dishonest, slanted stories out there.

Many of the French settlers who, in fact, were forced to come to Louisiana (criminals, ne'r-do-wells, prostitutes, and general low-lifes) had no work ethic and immediately became wards of the French government. They were pretty much worthless and were a drain on the French treasury.

Oh how history repeats itself hahaha

Huey Long's favorite drink was the Ramos Gin Fizz. He flew a New Orleans bartender up to New York in 1935 to teach the bartenders there how to properly make the drink.
