You could be a millionaire as a motivational speaker.

Yeah, I have no student debt (college and law school on scholarship), BF% of 11% ( ), and I want more out of life.

How old are you? I'd be surprised if any service didn't take you as long as your in decent shape and don't have a criminal record. You already have Law school under your belt is a huge money saver. That really does mean a lot to them.

Our drill sergeants posed this question to my basic training platoon in week 2 or 3 - pretty much another excuse to smoke our asses. The first 5 or 6 guys said money for college (of course) and got cussed out and smoked. Then the next few folks said "to serve my country," but couldn't come up with anything more specific so they got similarly smoked. My turn came and I knew I was going to do a shitton of pushups and flutter kicks regardless of my answer, so I replied, "For the food and the women."

Only guy that got away unscathed cited his dad being KIA in Vietnam as his reason for joining.

Good times.

Garmish - do you remember a 1989, May commissionee that was with us - a female with the first name Ladenna? She ended up marrying SGM Piper in the Louisiana Guard (and she's an O-5 now), but I cannot for the life of me remember her - do you remember her last name back then?

(And she was an MS4 when I started mid-year in January 1989 - so the 1 semester might be why I have zero memory of her.)

Probably a small hurdle when we had 2 wars going. Not so sure now. I am sure a Law MOS would take a Senator pulling some strings these days, but having a Law degree should help matters.

Had a couple buddies joining the Marines right after HS...decided to give the Reserves a try. Enjoyed my time in and made friends for life after living out of humvee's together for 5 months during Desert Storm.

Out of our 27 man heavy machinegun platoon...5 of us went to HS together.

Semper Fi!

I concur, but in this case, the draw down can be compared to the mortgage industry collapse, or mass bankruptcies, the legal workload will rise because of all of the "reverse processing."

Well, I do know two senators really well. One is a good friend. Maybe he can help me out.

Yeah, the President just had a press conference stating we'll be out of Afghanistan this year. Oops.

Didn't really think about that but you are right. Soon, the only guys that will be at Quantico will be future lawyers.

I remember her well. She went to one of the Mil Balls with a good buddy of mine who was in NROTC.

Her dating Pepper (or Piper?) Whatshisass for a brief time lit the fuse that got Mark Howard in trouble, IIRC.

Still drawing a blank.

See - this is where my timeline breaks down - I thought she should have been gone by then - Pepper was 1 semester behind me with Marshall Wilson (or so I thought), and she should have been 3 semesters ahead of me. Maybe Pepper was a semester ahead of me.

The only white girl I remember is Susan (Connors, maybe), because she was in the Raiders.

(BTW, Mark and I worked together the past couple of years in the USAR - he's back in the Guard now and might make O-6...)

I also, briefly, had operational control over Pat Simon, my old ROTC company commander.

Joined LA NG to help pay for college, earned ROTC Scholarship to finish college once I got my act together as a young man.

Stayed in because I enjoy what I do. There are very few people that do not enjoy being in the military. There are stupid days, but as a whole it is a great experience.
