Surprised she didn't go under with the 1st shot, that ship was old as hell, we had fire or flooding every time we got underway and the deck apes routinely needle gunned through the skin of the ship.

Your hatred of the reserves is kinda ridiculous man. Most of the guard reserve guys were in actual combat. You were kicking it on a boat hitting ports of call. Which is fine. We all serve and deploying on a ship constantly is definitely a sacrifice, but keep in mind that reservists have to drop their whole lives at the drop of a hat and leave for a year.

Military seem to think their lives are more valuable than civilians
They ARE you ignorant self absorbed fool. They signed up of their own free will and the fought and died to preserve the very freedom that you have right now in being able to make much more money than you are worth while playing on the internet. Don't you know ANYTHING about this subject? Don't you know that this very military is a deterrent to aggressors that would happily own your arse right now? Don't you know you wouldn't be able to pay for their benefits if you were living like the people in the Ukraine right now?
No, you don't know even this simple stuff because you think you know it all. You have never served but you know all about it. You SHOULD have worn the uniform. You would be twice the man you are today. As it stands right now you aren't worthy to stand near the grave of a fallen soldier.
So give your sympathy to the kid that was gunned down in the street ... and consider not the so many more that enjoy life because of the brave. As for me, I'll be sad for the innocent kid and it's family BUT I'll salute the fallen soldier and I'll thank all my brothers for what they have done to preserve and assure our freedom.

Why do they call standing with your feet spread and your hands behind your back in the military, "At ease"?
To me, "at ease", is NOT being in the military.

I was drafted. Even though I was going not of my own free will (I was 20 and having the best time of my life) I would have stayed longer if the money would have been enough to live on. I was making a little over $200 (1971) per month. I came home to a $575 job with better benefits..

I was give 10 days notice for my first deployment in October of 2001. Guardsmen have to drop everything for hurricanes and shite.

I struggled through High school and did not want to waste my parents money on College. Joined the Air Force, experienced things that civilians never will, met some of my best friends and learned to appreciate the little things in life. There are days that I really miss it but also enjoy the freedoms of a normal life now. Aim high bitches!!

Of course it's not a deployment. They still put their lives on hold to serve their community. Pretty noble work if you ask me.

Do you count the 18 months that the 256th (LA National Guard) spent in Iraq as being deployed?

For the money, for the glory and for the fun. (Mostly for the money.)

Yes...I don't agree when they bitch about it because they expected to never have to be deployed...Why else would they join the guard..
