I'm finally getting around to upgrading my old chair I inherited.

What's in your office? I'm at my computer most of the day so it will get a lot of play. I'm not looking to drop 1k on a Herman Miller but I'm sure there are some solid options around 3-500.

What are some brands to check out?

Check out seatingmind.com, they have used Herman Miller and Steelcase chairs that are in good condition and a good price.
I switched from a Steelcase Leap to a Herman Miller Aeron and did not like the aeron so switched back to the leap.
Both are good, but I just found the Leap more comfortable.

Aereon will last twice if not three times as long as your 3-500 chair. So getting the aereon will save you money in the long run.

I've had mine for about 7 years and just as good the day it arrived.

Correction: I also have an eames chair in my home office and I would not recommend that chair for extended sitting. Aeron at the office

I have a HON Ignition 2 mid-back with headrest at the office and it has been a vast improvement over my previous cushy leather chairs. I opted to not get the mesh seat because the frames of mesh seats put a line of pressure on the back of my legs just above the knee, and I didn’t want that. Adjust it to size and it’s an excellent chair.

I ordered it through a local office furniture supplier and it took about a month to come in. If you don’t want a specific configuration you can probably order it over the internet for a very reasonable price.

For work, a lot of long hours in front of the computer, i don’t want a soft chair. This one has been perfect for me.

I have a $200 random brand mesh style. It has lasted a long time but it's not particularly comfortable. Average.

I took a long look at a Titan (I think that's the brand) gaming chair but ultimately decided it might look a little childish on work video calls. I may revisit now that I care less about that.

Eta
Secret Lab is the brand for the gaming chair. Titan was the model.
