I stand corrected
I grew up in the east in the 90s. On the city map, they were/are considered the “Florida and Desire areas” which were west of the canal so however you want to classify them I’m good with

That area by the ratty video poker casino is most definitely not safe. Lots of drugs in that area and those people fly down Chef
Worked out there on and off for 8-10 years.
Seen a lot of shite over the years on Chef Hwy....it always made me smile.
Hookers, car fires, staged accidents, drug deals, hookers, you name it.
If you really want to see a slice of paradise...go down old gentilly road which runs kind of parallel to chef get. Dont touch the brake though.
To op, Venetian isles, like all of nola, is not "safe" for normal people. Way way too much Wild West mentality and not enough law enforcement who give a frick.

Technically the 9th ward is everything east of Peoples' Avenue (close to Franklin Ave).
This is because the wards were created in the 1800s, long before the industrial canal and before really anything was located east of that, except for the sliver along the river.

Old Viet town is dying out, it's mostly boomers and geriatrics that still live there. Most of the 2nd generation Viet-Americans are buying in Metairie and the Northshore.
