For all you curb crawlers
Indirectly, mine would be the photo of the first game in Tiger Stadium. Didn't find it at a garage sale, but the person who was having garage sale showed it to me and I bought it later.
Directly, it would be 1000+ Estes rockets (built and unbuilt) for $250, sold for nearly $4000.
5 of the rockets were large rockets, still in boxes, they sold for $1500 alone.

Waffle iron
I found a waffle iron once, paid $5, sold it for $400, but it was a Griswold waffle iron

Custom made farm table because some dude stored it at his brother in laws house and wouldn't come get it. $175 at least ten years ago. Worth much more now I am sure.

I have never found anything worth a crap at a garage sale. How do you pick which ones to go to?

Old, rich neighborhoods like Garden District and Highland Road area from campus to Staring Lane. Plus old neighborhoods in Goodwood/College Drive Area.

Not at garage sale but, found an old Singer sewing machine( one with foot petal) on road. Cleaned it up,painted it up. Put glass top on it. Wife liked it enough to put in den and she is very picky.

That's amazing
I've never been to a garage sale but I've bought some hard to find Fitz & Floyd pieces on EBay.

i have been a garage/estate sale shopper for over 10 years now. Garage sale are fun but it takes 50 sales to find one good thing.
Estate sales are 1000x better. I have found some amazing stuff for pennies. The estate sale companies focus on the "high end" stuff like furniture, art, silverware, jewelry, etc, and I walk out the door paying a couple dollars for a toy or sports item I know is worth $100's.

Seriously though, is there a method to choosing? I always just see junk crap when I go to them.

Granted, I paid $1700 for the photo of the first game in Tiger Stadium, $300 more to frame.

Aren't these by invite or registration mostly though?
