Currently figuring this out. I have been unemployed for 4 months now and can not get an interview. Any OTers hiring? I'll sweep floors at this point just to get some money coming in.
Is it that hard to find a serving job?
Something tells me you're not as desperate as you're making it out to be.

You basically have to pick up and start over.
Ive done this several times, it's an adventure.
I don't have a plan, I'll choose a path based on opportunity and personal fulfillment

Target, Walmart, chilis, McDonald's, etc etc not hiring? Or are you too good for those?
If you treat finding a job like it's your job and work at it 8 hours a day, you'll find something. You gotta apply to at least 100 places if you're serious about it.

ok ok... well if I couldn't do anything in mental health I guess I would try my hand at bartending... something I always wanted to do, but would have to take a big step down lifestyle wise.
Other than that, my grandpa started a company I used to work at.. I guess I would maybe move and try to work my way up that?

Gain experience and move up to the nicer, more expensive bars/restaurants. You can clear $500 a night easily and even get double that at some places.
My wife interned at the four seasons during college and they basically just had her bartend one summer. She made a frick ton.

No I have not applied to any of those. I have been having interviews, but then I can not get them to return my calls.
If you are not going to hire me then tell me what led to that decision so I can fix the problem for the future.
I have been treating it like a job and applying to tons of positions. I have been networking, and I even introduce myself to random people who I hear talking about jobs and hand them my resume.

I have middle management experience in retail and with my experience and degree could easily get a job somewhere in that industry or hop to Amazon AWS in a different business silo.

I maintain my low voltage license so I can always fall back to my tool belt if my corporation did something stupid like eliminate my position.
I believe everything happens for a reason and if I end up getting laid off, it would end up being the best thing that ever happened to me, or so I tell myself to resist all the urges that make me want to go out and kill.
Don’t forget to understand exactly what you put on the tree.
Don’t believe the florist when he tells you that the roses are free.

Take my tent and move to a remote beach in Kauai. Get away from it all and eat chicken every day

Nice!! Yea I've met bartenders who are truly committed to their craft who I can see making a lot because of the crowds they draw to their respective place.
To be honest I'd prefer to work a dive bar... just seems like a really fun job....but yea there's no way that could be considered a fallback

Let's say you lose your job tomorrow
My thinking would be to maximize my savings and minimize spending my saved money.
File for unemployment.
Put the kids on Medicaid (add wife and myself if possible)
Get food stamps for the kids (wife and myself if possible)
Look for a job similar to the one I had
If not successful, look for a job that I can do with my degrees
If not successful, look for anything
I have about 5 years savings stretching it. See what I can do in 5 years.
If not successful, go be a missionary in Africa in a Muslim country, get killed, wife collects the $1 million life insurance policy.

Cash out my 401K, sell our house. Use that money to buy a fifth wheel toy-hauler and live on a little lot at Guntersville lake. Probably get a small time job like a school bus driver just to have a little extra spending money.
I’m other words, at least semi-retire.

Because being a bartender means she's a whore, amirite?
