Were you somehow confused into thinking there is no real science behind the concept of vaccines? That is my guess as most people who blindly support vaccines don't seem to understand the real issues at hand.

I believe in vaccines. That polio, smallpox and many other diseases no longer afflict most people in the US is a testament to their effectiveness. It seems you disagree with some portion of that premise. The site you linked also discredited herd mentality. Care to elaborate?

Lastly, it seems that you are linking to people who are known antivaxers. Is this because you believe in their work?

No to the HPV vaccination for middle school girls. Its suppose to vaccinate you from only a few strains of HPV (only 4), but there are a ridiculous amount of strains it is ineffective against. Hundreds of strains. It's called Gardasil. There are too many ridiculous affects, very permanent. Seen horror results from this. I don't believe this should be mandatory for middle school girls! This is absurd and not worth the damage this vaccination has done

This makes me sad. We cured cancer, guys! And you don't want the cure...

Ok...the author is way to hyperbolic to be taken seriously, but the ACP's press release was interesting.

Basically there have been 89 cases of ovarian failure reported (by physicians) as adverse reactions to a vaccine since 2006, and 3/4ths of those are associated with SOLELY Gardisil. It breaks it down further, but that is the "take home" from this.

This is the releases conclusion:
quote:

The College is posting this statement so that individuals considering the use of human papillomavirus
vaccines could be made aware of these concerns pending further action by the regulatory agencies and
manufacturers. While there is no strong evidence of a causal relationship between HPV4 and ovarian
dysfunction, this information should be public knowledge for physicians and patients considering these
vaccines.

If we're comparing for safety's sake, I saw 89 cases of H&N cancer secondary to HPV in about a week at a previous employer. Statistics say get the vaccination.

Can I just say I really HATE antivaxxers. Spouting all their bullshite and who suffers the most from them....the poor children since most antivaxxers were vaccinated themselves as children.

Couple months ago I cared for a small baby that DIED from pertussis. All because the baby was too young to be vaccinated from pertussis and the parents didn't get a simple shot themselves before baby was born. The rise in pertussis out here has been insane because of all the antivaxxer bullshite.

One of the attendings at work was telling me how in medical school when they discussed pertussis and learned about they were told "oh but you will likely never see it again in your lifetime".....wrong. Studies have shown the rise in pertussis cases IS directly related to refusing to vaccinate.

You do realize 16 & 18 are two of the subtypes the quadrivalent Gardasil vaccine protects against and these two are responsible for the overwhelming majority of genital and non-genital cancers that are HPV related, don't you? The far reaching majority of HPV strains are either clinically irrelevant, or cause benign, self-limiting disease. Of note, it also induces immunity against 6 & 11, which cause most cases of genital condyloma. At any rate, the newer version is 9-valent and picks up 31 & 33, in addition to several others, which should have the potential of wiping out HPV related squamous cancers.

I don't treat middle schoolers, but I can tell you in the days since Gardasil came along, that in my large group women's health practice, that significant HPV-related disease has taken a nosedive (i.e. high-grade dysplasia and worse). I am not going to get specific with numbers, because as of right now they are not peer-reviewed and published, but in this community based practice setting, the results are impressive. As far as safety goes, this is one of the safest vaccines there is and its hard to find documented cases of serious side effects supported by hard evidence.

I know Merck makes a lot of money on Gardasil, and personally I don't care about that, but I would love to never see another case of cervical cancer because it is an ugly, ugly disease, and It looks like now we are well on our way to eliminating that and other HPV related cancers.

Some but certainly not all vaccines... Reward far excedes risk in many cases, MAR, Pertussis for example.

Agreed, I'm not anti all vaccines by any means but I do think the current number and the schedule to get them is highly unnecessary.

People should be free to choose. That is all that really matters.

You got idiots thinking vaccines are completely safe despite overwhelming of studies proving otherwise (and manufacturers admitting it). And you got idiots who don't see the science of good vaccines.

No they shouldnt.
