Lots of posters in this thread need to stay at the $5-$15 tables imo

Ummmm.....that's what you are supposed to do. Anybody that says otherwise, doesn't know what they are doing.

Sadly, I've encountered many an idiot with no clue how to play even in the high limit room.

That’s because a lot of casinos don’t allow you to anymore.

Also, a bunch of casinos have moved to 8 decks in the shoe. Basic strategy flies out the window when you add another 2 decks. Harrah’s is poster child for this. A 6 deck game doesn’t exist on the floor. You can only find a 6 deck game in High Limit.

I rarely play on the floor, unless it's double deck. Too many times, the cards are running great, dealer busting over and over, and some jackass sits down in the middle, plays a couple of $10 hands, and gets up.

Why would basic strategy change with an extra 2 decks?

Me too. I just quit playing till the house takes all his money. Everyone in the room knows that is going to happen very soon.

Never hit your 16.

Whether or not you hit or stand on 16 (dealer has a good up card), I always advise people to be consistent. If you like to hit it, always hit it; if you like to stand, always stand. Waffling back and forth is probably the worst thing someone could do.

I typically prefer a good double deck game, as long as they still pay 3-2 on BJ.

Definitely. BJ is one of the few games where your play affects other players.

I have to say this in every one of these threads but to assume "poor" play can only affect you negatively is simple thinking.

Someone not playing by the book can help you or hurt you. I know the BJ bad asses love to beat their chests about how they'd be retired from BJ winnings if it weren't for stupid players but that line of thinking is lacking logic. Everyone likes to talk about how someone stole their card with a stupid hit but they could have easily eaten a card that would have been bad for you.

If you don't want to play with "bad" players then nut up and play in the high limit room. You'll still find people who will go off book but it is more rare.

Are there double deck tables that don't pay 3-2? I've only seen that with single deck.

I've seen it before, forget where though.

I've only been playing for close to 30 years. Walked out of several casinos (Vegas and Biloxi) with briefcases filled with cash. Unfortunately poor play by players, does affect the other players. Too many times, I've seen a guy hit when should've stayed, or not hit, when he should and screwed it up for everyone at the table. BJ is all about the math. That's why, if played properly, you can cut the house advantage down to almost zero. Sure you are going to lose hands played properly, it's over time where playing correctly gives you a much better chance of walking away with more money than you sat down with.

This is definitely where you went off the tracks. Yes, that COULD happen, but less likely. A double deck game has 32 cards valued at 10, only 8 of every other value. I don't count cards, but I do try to keep a running total of how many 10 value cards I've seen in a deal.

Yep. I have no idea what I'm talking about. Keep hitting that 13 when the dealer has 3, 4, or 5 showing. I'm sure that will work out more times than not.

Hitting when the dealer has a bust card is stupid, poor strategy. However someone else's stupid strategy does not effect you in any material way.
