I'm thinking about going to check out Shiloh Battlefield this summer. Corinth seems to be the town to stay in if visiting the battlefield.

Any insight into what it is like in that part of Mississippi?

there is a walmart and I believe a Red Lobster but that is about it. Pickwick Lake isn't too far away. I have been through that way a few times working at the papermill in Counce, TN.

It has a mall, Chick-fil-A, and the NTP runs thru there.

It doesn't appear horrible, but it's no vacation destination.

There used to be a sweet arse dog fighting event every Saturday. But if you ask the locals about it, make sure they know you're not a cop.

Had a friend stay at the Generals Quarters B&B and he said it was nice. He didn't say much about the nightlife though.

My family moved from Tennessee to Corinth just after civil war. My great great grandfather made a pledge if he survived Shiloh and the war, he would move to the area because it was so beautiful. They all eventually sharecropped down to Louisiana. Corinth has been in a serious decline and has gotten quite shitty since Buford Pusser put the stick down.

Whoops. I was thinking of Tupelo.

Corinth fricking sucks.

OP, you should stay in Florence instead.

And that's a sentence I never thought I would type.

Yeah I'm a bit tired of the typical I-20 boredom express when I'm driving out west, so I'm looking to hit a few national park service spots on the way to Texas just to make things a little more interesting since I won't be in much of a rush.

Chattanooga & Chickamauga, Shiloh, and Hot Springs are what I'm thinking.

Eat a lot of slug burgers! You're welcome.

Also, I would rather stay in Florence or Muscle Shoals instead of Corinth. About an extra 30 min drive but probably worth it. Stay at the Marriott resort and go play golf on robert trent jones courses.

Chattanooga and Chickamauga are both awesome. One of my pledge brothers got married at Chickamauga and I enjoyed the battlefield and the surrounding scenery.

Went every summer with the Boy Scouts on the military trails there. It's a great trip.

Florence is actually growing, something I never thought I would see in my lifetime.

I am in Florence, AL area. It's not a far drive from here.

I would try to find somewhere other than Corinth to stay.

The wife and I did that about 8 years ago. The reenactment was very cool, and we stayed in Corinth at some shitty motel.

If I remember correctly it's a dry city/county? Or maybe the bars don't serve alcohol? I can't remember. So there isn't much to do after the battle in town.
