What's the story here
Very insular group of people in Appalachia. I lived up in Morristown for a few years. Suspicious of outsiders. You could substitute any state’s plates for Louisiana. I think it was the area that the movie Walking Tall was based on.

Walking Tall was based on McNairy County which is on the Tn-MS border.

A hollow in Eastern KY or TN where they are making moonshine and growing weed.
Mexicans are growing most of the weed in the Daniel Boone now so that is more unwelcoming as the cartels have very little concern for human life.
Most of the folks making shine are now old or dead so not like the old days when what you say may have been more true. Back in the day they had distrust for company men so if you worked for a utility it could be difficult but if you looked like a farmer or miner things were cool.
If you happened to stumble on a Melungeon community (Native Indians, Escaped Slaves, and European Outlaws) it was probably hostile to outsiders but that was valid based on treatment of these folks when they ventured into more civilized areas. From long first hand interaction tho, real Melungeon folks are very kind and fun to be around once they know you.

Any native village.
They literally hate you, but will beg you for your money.

You talking Indian villages in the US?
If you are English or Spanish, probably
If you are French, probably not (experience with tribes east of the Mississippi and in Canada). I have acquired lots of native art and handiwork in my lifetime and never once was I asked for money and feel if I was that hated would not have been welcome to share in meals or story telling.

Absolutely not.
The villages here are very anti outside, except they'll take your money.
In fact, they politic for your money while hating you. One of the greatest arguments vs socialism is the native villages.

OK, we must be talking about different villages then. Where in the country were you?

Alaska.
The villages here remained intact over the decades, many have no white people.

OK, will take your word for it. Never been to AK so have no 1st hand experience. Lower 48 and Canada that I have been to are not that way at all.
Thanks for the heads up as AK and HI are still on my bucket list as the only 2 US states I have not been to yet.

Small towns in AK are some of the last viable towns left. Except the villages. Just avoid the villages.

When I travel I like small towns and local food, is AK a good state to visit?

Sounds like a small town WI bar.
You won't have any trouble though. As long as you don't start sniffing on their women.

Kuwaitis are some of the worst people I've ever met in my life.
