Scares the hell out of me. Now there is talk of the death penalty for drug dealers. Imagine that...your own government putting you to death for a non violent crime.

Abc store is cheaper than the local mom and pop liquor stores. At least here in Baldwin County

I remember it being about double what I pay in Louisiana.

That's because Mom and Pop aren't allowed to sell for less than state run ABC store.

I am old enough to remember as a child it being a big deal when stores started opening on sundays.

Same. I went to Vegas for a school trip as a sophomore in high school in 1986 and the kid there we were staying with wanted to go to a Tower Records on a Sunday. Me and the guy I had gone with looked at him like he was insane thinking it would be open on Sunday.

He thought we were from Mars when we explained essentially nothing was open on Sunday back home...

In South Louisiana (Baton Rouge), I knew far more Jews than Baptists and probably 50% of my friends were Catholics, who we know love to drink. I am not sure a single one of my friends or acquaintances in Baton Rouge in my 18 years there was a Baptist.

I never understood how Blue Laws survived as long as they did there

The Jimmy Swaggart type crowds. Maybe not technically baptist but cut from the same judgemental cloth.

Not that I have a real problem with baptists, as long as they are just the love Jesus and gospel music type and not the “tell me i’m Going to hell type.”

I feel the same way about Houston now. My wife and I usually get our groceries on Sunday mornings to try to beat the crowds. I have had the cashier remind me that they can't sell me beer before noon on Sundays more times than I care to admit. It just always slips my mind. I would assume most of the religious people in the Harris County are Catholic. I would also assume that with such a large population, it would be hard to pass this blue law bullshite.

Hell, I live in the Heights, and it was a big deal that they passed a law allowing alcohol sales in grocery stores in the dry area of the Heights a year or so ago. That vote was mostly due to HEB funding. Bars still have to have patrons sign up for their "club" in order to sell them alcohol. I think that might be changing soon, though.

All of this is pretty ridiculous for a country that prides itself on being "free".

You can only by liquor in any liquor store at a heavy markup, right?

In Alabama an independent liquor store must buy its inventory from the state owned ABC store. They pay what you pay.

No discounts for re-sellers. Including bar owners. Bar owner buys same price I do and even pays the required sales tax. Then when bar owner sells it to the consumer he must again collect sales tax.

Its like Shorty Price once said in an interview "Governors term should be only 2 years". When the reporter asked why not the existing 4 year term, Shorty replied "if you cant steal enough in 2 years you have no business being Governor".

Shorty Price was a huge Alabama fan who would lead the band in different songs. He was a drunkard. He ran for Governor several times.

I noticed when I was down there last time, every place that served alcohol had a sign posted saying how much booze was in each drink, what's that all about?

There are volume discounts, usually a bottle per case.

its been a while, but I never collected sales tax from customers on liquor, I ran a bar in Auburn for 5 years. I forget if we did with ABC.

Worst part about liquor in Alabama is you only get the selection that ABC decides to buy and they are corrupt with the contracts

Because the only group of people dumber than Muslims are Baptists, mostly because the Baptists are big time trailer park hypocrites.
