Eh, I’d say 200 w/ kids, but the sentiment is the same.

Bruh. That’s what you need in Baton Rouge. Not DC.

DC area— I’d say $250k–$300k/ year minimum if you have kids to feel comfortable middle class.

Can someone give examples of jobs that make this in that area?

In DC? Most lobbyist jobs. But pretty sure he is factoring a dual income, so 125-150 per person. Which is still high and why a lot of people can’t live “comfortably” there.

But I also think “comfortable” is completely different in a place like DC compared to, say, BR. If you’ve got a 2BR/1BA in a nicer area of DC proper, you’re pretty damn comfortable.

Depends on what you mean by comfortable. If you’re ok with paying rent or having a commute then you can find nice places that aren’t that much more expensive than any other big city.

San Fran might have the most expensive houses in the country but a friend of mine just bought a house 50 miles away for 300k and it’s a very nice place in a nice neighborhood.

if you can't buy a house with cash, you can't afford it.

Like San Francisco or New York City, Los Angeles.

All three of these cities require different types of income to live and sustain

Who can live comfortably in a crowded, noisy place where people gun each other down in the streets?

Federal workers at the top of the GS scale make ~$170k in base pay (not including cash awards). Federal workers at the top of FIRREA agency pay scales make ~$255k. Private sector attorneys at big firms make $200k as a first year associate now. Medical doctors of course make a lot. Most families are two-income households.
