What Incentive Is There To Make People Think We Are Living In Troubling Times?

Earlier today I heard someone say something along the lines of "This world we live in.. It only gets worse".. Then every once in awhile I will come across an article that says something like "in these troubling times". Is there anyone (or group) in which it is in their best interest for the general public to believe we live in bad times?

I know fear sells and the closer we get to presidential elections, there is always something that is used to scare people, especially candidates that need a lot of people to go out and vote in order to have a chance to win.. So they will find that issue and drill it.. "This is a big problem, it needs to be fixed, if it isn't it will have a direct impact on you so if you want this to be taken care of vote for me. If the other guy gets elected they will not take care of it and it will be a problem in your life so vote for me".

Let me ask you this. What time would you go back to that you think you would be the safest in?

Ok, hold up.

You all know I feud with the wheeled wonder constantly, but he’s presented a coherent thread here that is topical, doesn’t meander with made up stories, and poses a pertinent question relevant to the original point.

It may be his best thread ever.

The truth is with all the gloom and doom being spouted by the media, the reality is that these are halcyon days, relatively. Other than the cultural morass of degeneracy being foisted by the proggies, things aren’t bad. At all.

But the days before widespread access to social media were pretty good.

When republicans are in power the answer is democrats.

When democrats are in power the answer is republicans.

Regardless of who is in power the answer is libertarians.

I agree with this. Social media is a helpful tool, but I don't know if the good outweighs the bad.

It intensifies depression, it spreads false information at a faster rate. It allows people to become more tribal. Someone post something that different groups of people don't like, they are able to easily come together and plan away to "attack" a person who.. Just posted something they didn't agree with by trying to get them fired, etc, etc.. And it allows everyone to see all of the bad things around the clock.

Before the internet, if there was some tragic event. It wasn't shoved in your face all of the time. Not to mention, people don't check to see if something they read or hear is true or not before telling others.. So we all have information coming at us all the time...

Isn't there a rule for starting a thread about anything that pops in your head

The rules are fairly standard for title case:
Capitalize the first and the last word.
Capitalize nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and subordinate conjunctions.
Lowercase articles (a, an, the), coordinating conjunctions, and prepositions.
Lowercase the 'to' in an infinitive (I want to play guitar).

I know I am not supposed to capitalize "To" and "The", but I do it here.. But this is how titles work.. Jackass

Why dont you just ask all those "friends" you know.

They seem full of life experience.

Edit for more interactive enjoyment:

It's so comical yet sad at the same time. I just saw where a social security judge who works at the hearings office in New Orleans post on FB that if Trump is re-elected, all is lost. I just wonder how he comes to that conclusion but then again when the same person says any of the Dem candidates are better than Trump, he is just not very smart. I guess it makes him feel better to whine

Crime is going down, poverty is going down, huge advances in medicine, rare to starve to death in 1st world countries. It's the best time to be alive. The "good ole days" are a myth.

Also, Russia needs American's to believe they are all oppressed because it helps spawn generations that are more interested in polarized factions that will fight to damage and in some ways completely eliminate Western ideals and philosophies.

That way they will be more drawn to things like socialism and communism and eventually the social and economic foundation by which the US became a world power will slowly erode or be critically compromised.

if you believe that sort of thing...

Honestly, I don't know what this is all leading to, but if you turn off the left or right wing (depending on where you lean) echo-chambers -- you'll quickly see how we are living in the most prosperous, stable, safest times in our history. And a lot of people want that to end.
