What happens when we die?

I would first off like to say this thread isn't about religion or preference to a certain faith. Whether you believe in God or not, everyone wants to know deep down what happens.
As most people should know when our body finally realizes we are dying it releases a chemical named DMT into your brain. You can look this up, it's an actual drug you can get your hands on but the people who have taken are changed forever. You basically see death or what technically happens after/during death.
I personally believe in God, I'm a confirmed Roman Catholic but I haven't been to church since I graduated High School. I don't believe in religion, church does nothing for me. I feel closest to my creater when I'm at peace, or admiring nature. For anyone who doesn't believe in God or a creator that's your opinion and one that should be respected. At the same time you feel peace in certain places and it almost feels like nirvana in a way, so you can relate to what I'm saying.
I don't know, I really don't know if I'm scared to die or not. I don't know if I should be scared or not. I've always thought that if I'm a good person and my intentions are truly good throughout life then what else can my creator or higher being ask of me? If that's not enough to get into heaven then I guess I'm going to hell.
I've always been really scared that when we die it's just nothingness, you feel nothing, you see nothing, you are nothing. I've had points when I was younger were I would seriously get anxiety over that thought, but now what if nothingness is the true form of peace? Nothing to love you nor hurt you, you're just energy and part of the universe forever. As you know energy can't be destroyed nor created, so all the energy in existence has always and will always exist.
If you think I'm a pussy or beta for saying this then you're a closed minded fool not to invest time into the greatest question humanity has ever faced.

You'll never know the answer, the sooner you come to terms with that the sooner you will have inner peace.

God resurrects you and you're judged by the grace of Jesus

I know that but as an educated person, you can't help but think about the unknown.

Christopher Hitchens said it best:
quote:
It will happen to all of us, that at some point you get tapped on the shoulder and told, not just that the party’s over, but slightly worse: the party’s going on — but you have to leave. And it’s going on without you. That’s the reflection that I think most upsets people about their demise.

Right there with you. The mind will churn on "the question" for all of life until you accept that our minds are limited in their knowledge, grossly limited. I'm not saying I've been able to accept my condition as a mortal with a small, temporal mind. But, I am saying the sooner I can come to terms with the fact that I will never have an understanding of life and death the sooner I can move past "the question" and find contentment.

You upvoted a Hitchens quote instead, Heathen(s). Ironic, wouldn't ya say?

Do you remember anything before you were born Thought so.
That is death.
That is death.

I believe centuries ago people were able to cope with death better than we do now. There was nothing much for them to look forward to. Fast forward now and humanity has progressed so much in one century. I'm not scared of death. I'm scared of all the awesome shite I will never see. And sex robots. I will never see sex robots.

No, but are we truly capable of remembering death before life?
