A doctor that I used to work with travelled all over. Speaks probably 4 languages. He said at the time that Johannesburg was one of the most beautiful cities in the world. This was 2008 to 2010.

Most of Johannesburg (my birthplace) is and has always been a dump. You have some of the upscale suburbs like Sandton and Edenvale that are similar to nice US suburbs, but downtown has been a complete no go for white people for decades.
