i hear this several times a week. I always want to ask what exactly they mean, but for some reason I haven’t yet.

Just looking at it I think it most nearly means something like “I hope god blesses you today” or “I wish you good fortune today.” But I’m curious to see what it actually means to the people who say it and have they actually thought about it.

Have a good day?

Is this really that hard?

Well, blessings all flow from God. I assume people who say it think you need some God in your sinful life.

Well then why not just say that?

It also has a tinge of virtue signaling now that I think about it.

It's a more sanctimonious version of it. Kind of a way for people to shoehorn their relgiousness into an everyday phrase.

It's a black thing or so it seems. I never hear a whitey say it.

I’ve heard it from pretty much every color but Asians. A Hispanic lady was the most recent
